Indianapolis, IN (May 2011) –IUPUI University College would like to acknowledge Linzi Moore as one of the 2011 IUPUI Chancellor’s Honorable Mention recipients. Moore is a sophomore pre-nursing major maintaining a 3.9 grade point average. Besides being a full-time student, Moore is also a volunteer at her local hospital in Rushville, IN, and a part-time worker within her community. When she heard that she was being considered as a recipient for the Chancellor’s Honorable Mention award, Moore felt a sense of fulfillment. “It’s good to know that all my hard work that I put in my studies is paying off.
When asked about the key motivator behind her academic excellence, Moore simply responded, “Family.” Moore says that it is her family that encourages and supports her through her academic journey. “They’ve always taught me that I can do whatever I want if I put my mind too and give it a 100 percent effort.
In addition to her family support, Moore believes that other factors – which she considers some of her strengths – have impacted her academic achievements: determination, a strong work ethic, and time management. Moore is a strong advocate for making sure that her time is managed between her academics, work, and volunteerism. She believes that time management is a critical component in college academic success.
Moore states that she always wanted to attend IUPUI for the nuclear medicine program, but as her studies evolved she chose to major in nursing. One thing she loves about IUPUI is the small class sizes; Moore is able to get one-on-one attention with most of her professors. On the other hand, if Moore could add one thing to IUPUI it would be a Subway sandwich shop.
When asked if she had any words of encouragement and/or wisdom for future and current students who wish to excel in their academics, Moore stated, “Manage your time effectively! And try not to get distracted! The transition from high school to college can be intense for everyone. Stay focused, and always give a 100 percent effort in everything that you do.”
