IUPUI Division Staff Members Recognized by Career Development Professionals of Indiana

Indianapolis, IN (May 2016) – Jennifer Schott and Keely Floyd recently received awards from the Career Development Professionals of Indiana (CDPI) association for their contributions to the field of career development.

Schott, director of career planning in Academic and Career Development (ACD) in University College in the Division of Undergraduate Education at IUPUI, recently received the Distinguished Career Award for exceptional dedication to the career development profession. She has been a staff member at IUPUI for 12 years and director of career planning since 2011.

I have been a member of CDPI for the past 12 years and have benefited greatly from this knowledgeable, supportive, and wonderful group of professionals.

Schott commented about receiving the award
In her role as director, Schott worked with other ACD leadership and staff to implement an advising model that has transformed the way students are able to plan for their careers. The advisement model was restructured into thematic groups called clusters, each one consisting of associated staff members who can provide specialized knowledge in certain programs or fields. The role of the traditional academic advisor was revised into the student success advisor, which incorporates both academic and career advising. Student success advisors receive specialized training so that they can assist with career-related inquiries with less need to refer students elsewhere. In each cluster, a career consultant helps advisors and students learn more about programs specific to their fields. The consultants and student success advisors work as a team that allows students to get more individualized and effective attention.

Floyd, a career consultant for just under two years in the Health and Life Sciences Advising Center, received the Outstanding New Professional Award for her work in this position.

Floyd remarked, “It was a big honor to receive this award, but an even bigger thrill to receive it next to Jen Schott, who has been such an outstanding mentor. I have been fortunate to have observed wonderful professionals throughout my career in higher education, and this award is reflective of their guidance.”
