Indianapolis, IN (September 2017) – The IUPUI Office of Transfer Student Services in the Division of Undergraduate Education will host its annual Transfer Symposium in the Campus Center on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Registration for the event is required; however, admission is free.
The keynote speaker will be Stephen Handel, associate vice president of undergraduate admissions, Office of the President at the University of California, and member of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students Advisory Board. Breakout sessions will include presentations on transfer student demographics at IUPUI, financial aid available to transfer students, research on the experiences of IUPUI transfer students, and how various IUPUI schools and departments have successfully assisted transfer students in their transition to IUPUI. The goal of the symposium is for attendees to come away with new ideas on how to make an impact on the transfer student experience at IUPUI.
Presenters for this year’s event will include Steven Graunke, director of Institutional Research and Decision Support; undergraduate students Brenna Dilley and Kristin Scriven; Samantha Walters, director of Advising and Student Success in the School of Liberal Arts; Gwen Chastain, director of the Office of Educational Partnerships and Student Success; Joe Hayes, director of Campus Center and Student Experiences; Jim Fiddler and Marvin Smith, associate director and director (respectively) of Student Financial Services; Brian Ornelas, senior articulation specialist; and Matthew R. Moody and Stephanie Dennis-Lovett, associate director and senior assistant director (respectively) for strategic operations.
“The symposium provides dedicated time to discuss a population that can at times play second string and to dream of the future of transfer on our campus,” says Rachel Fulton, assistant director in the Office of Transfer Student Services.
